Bin Sorter Up and Running
May 14th, 2012May 14th 2012
The completion of installation and commissioning means Pinepac’s Bin Sorter is operational. This has been a mamoth project for the group and to have it up and running is very satisfying. We are now at week 8 of operation and the advantages from its grading, sorting and stacking capabilities managing material from the sawmill and presenting to further processing centres is already producing production efficiences and cost savings.
Data linked with the sawmill is enabling the comparison of mill targets and bin sorter targets, providing greater insight into log resource quality and production efficiencies.
Thank you to all who have contributed to the project, from our own maintenance crew, contractors and production staff.

Bin Sorter Construction Update
January 18th, 2012The end is in sight….
With alot of hard work over the Christmas New Year period the Pinepac Bin Sorter nears completion.
Thanks to the hard working maintenace and construction team the roof over the Bin Sorter is completed and roofing iron is due to be fixed. All walkway sections have been completed and installed including hand rails. The main airlines, deflectors and soft walls of the bin sorter are operational and main scaffolding removed. The final conveyor section has been installed from the yard to the recieving deck which carries not only our precious timber from the mill but network cables to enable the bin sorter/stacker and other machine centres downstream to send live data back to the sawmill. Providing valuable information on the performance of our raw material and overall sawmill productivity.
THE END IS IN SITE
November 25th, 2011With the end of the construction job in sight it is nearing the time when timber
will reach the Bin Sorter. By the end of November we will see the installation of the
transfer conveyor which will signal the connection of the structure back to the
existing sawmill.
Services (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic) will also be nearing completion at this
time with some aspects of the machine having already been given a trial run
with great success.
The project is still a hive of activity however it’s all coming together very quickly
with an initial run testing phase hopeful before Christmas.
“It’s probably been close on 4 years since some of the bin sorter equipment
has run, we originally saw it in Australia back in Nov 2008 decommissioned and
imported it early 2009 so it’s certainly been a while and an exciting time now
seeing it come back to life” Andrew Anderson, Project Manager.
