Anderson set to fly the ITM flag at the ITM400
This year the NZV8s arrive at the ITM400 in Hamilton for the final round of the championship instead of the usual trophy event. Although not competing for points at previous ITM400 events, the racing has been no less intense with the drivers putting on some of the most action packed racing of the weekend.
“This year has been a difficult one for the ITM Racing team. We are not where we expected to be on the championship ladder, but with some developments since Taupo, we are in with a shot to finish the season on a high.”
Following a post round technical inspection at Taupo that saw another competitor excluded from all rounds, the reallocation of points has seen Andrew and the ITM Commodore move up to 13th on the points table and less than 50 points off another top ten championship finish. With a maximum of 225 points up for grabs over the three races, there is plenty to play for at the ITM400.
“I’m only 44 points off tenth position so it is possible to close the gap if I have a good round. The top three are also separated by 44 points and I’m sure that those positions are far from locked in!”
Last year’s ITM400 was one of Andrew’s strongest performances of the season. Although qualifying in 8th place, he was able to race forward in the ITM Commodore to be fighting for an overall podium round finish and top placed Holden. “I really enjoy the track and have always gone well there. Last year in the dying laps of race 3, I was in third for the round watching Fogg holding off Bell but on the last lap Eddie Bell got back ahead, dropping me to 4th.”
With an unscheduled rebuild on the ITM Commodore’s engine after a component failure at Taupo, Andrew will line up at the back of the field having already used up his free engine life. With the tight narrow street layout one of the hardest circuits to pass on, Andrew’s work will be cut out for him to make progress but he is up for the challenge.
“Some parts of the track are certainly narrow, but there are several real passing opportunities and I know that the car is good around there. I will be taking a cautious yet determined mindset into race one.”
The ITM Racing team are again looking forward to catching up with all the ITM stores representatives and clients over the weekend at the Pit Lane Villa and the ITM Grandstand. The ITM Racing team would again like to thank the dedicated team of partners behind this season’s campaign, and welcome back Kincrome for the final round.
